We are GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of communications to make a real difference to the safety of the nation. We work closely with our partners in the intelligence community to safeguard Britain’s people, interests, and businesses from threats such as serious organised crime, people and drugs trafficking, terrorism and cyber-attacks. 

Our technical team are central to this mission. Now, you have an opportunity to join us as we’re recruiting for a number of technical roles. You’ll enjoy work you won’t find anywhere else - whether starting your career with us on our cyber security development programme, to engineering and system analyst roles. You could be exploring cutting-edge technologies or informing government decisions, finding solutions, sharing insights, or providing support essential to the success of our mission. 

Whichever role you apply for, you’ll be a problem solver who thinks creatively, is keen to learn and develop your skills, and work effectively with our stakeholders. 


The roles we’re looking to recruit include:

 

Cyber Security Development Programme

Over two years, you’ll explore the cyber security landscape through placements within the business, receive extensive support and formal training, and ultimately apply for an information security role with the organisation.

 

Senior and Lead Software Engineers

Using a range of software engineering methods, languages and frameworks, you’ll lead a team solving mission problems while making strategic contributions and ensuring best practice.

 

Software Engineers and Junior Software Engineers

You’ll join an Agile team tackling real-world problems with a variety of software engineering technologies including JavaScript, Java, C++, Node, Python, Rust, Go and .NET.

 

Infrastructure Engineer

You’ll work on unique and exciting projects, finding solutions and developing new capabilities across hardware, software and cloud platforms.

 

Weapons Systems Analyst

You’ll conduct technical data analysis to understand foreign weapon capabilities and technologies, using your knowledge to inform UK defence planning.

 

Industrial Systems Technical Analyst

Using analytical techniques and your own technical knowledge to solve intriguing problems, you’ll gain valuable insights that inform government decisions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. One of your parents must be a British Citizen or must have the nationality or citizenship from our approved list of countries (further information on our eligibility criteria can be found here. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You can apply at the age of 17 years, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday.
