MI5 are currently seeking an Occupational Health Advisor to work within our Human Resources team. Whatever your role at MI5, you will be contributing to protecting the UK from threats to national security.

The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for client case management and the delivery of travel health programmes, health surveillance, health screening and health promotion to clients. You will also be required to undertake telephone consultations and travel to other sites in the UK with an occasional overnight stay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a quality, evidence based and proactive service of Occupational Health requirements, whilst meeting all relevant compliance needs and adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Deliver active case management advice on the occupational health aspect of sickness absence and rehabilitation whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • To keep updated on new occupational health processes/activities and to maintain an ongoing health surveillance programme including audiometry and lung function, travel advice and vaccinations for business travellers.
  • To represent Occupational Health at Casework and Health and Safety meetings, presenting statistical reports and discussing Occupational Health issues with key stakeholders
    Maintain focus on workplace health by carrying out workplace visits to identify, advise and influence management on any potential health risks, including health promotion events.
  • Maintain own professional development with business support and requirement and ensure appropriate level of competence and performance in accordance with professional standards.


The Person

It is essential to be a Registered Nurse with a suitable qualification in Occupational Health. Consideration will be given to the right candidate with no formal qualification, but who has the relevant experience of occupational health. In this instance, training will be provided upon completion of the probationary period. It is essential to have experience in all aspects of health surveillance/screening procedures and a willingness to undertake any training for the role.

You will be required to have a high degree of self-management, self-motivation and ability to work alone or as part of a team. It is essential to be open to change and lead by example with good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Recruitment Process

The first thing we will ask you to do is complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. If you do meet these criteria we will then ask you to begin an application.

Our recruitment team will conduct a sift of your application and successful applicants will be invited to attend a competency based face to face interview to further explore your skills and motivation for the role. If you are successful at this stage, you will be required to attend a security interview with a vetting officer.
