At GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of data and communications to keep the UK and its citizens safe, both in the real world and online. When you join us as a Security Officer, you’ll help us do just that.

As a GCHQ Security Officer, you’ll help to protect our assets, people and places and make our complex security operation a success. You’ll work with a team of motivated professionals to provide a reassuring presence, while conducting a range of security duties and responsibilities.

Roles will be either a 12-hour rotating or day shift pattern

Our 24-hour officers typically work a 12-hour shift pattern comprising 2 days and 2 nights. This will include: 2-day shifts (covering 0700-19:00 including an hour’s unpaid meal break), 2 night shifts (covering 19:00-07:00 including an hour’s unpaid meal break) and 4 days off.

Our Extended Day Officers typically work Monday to Friday. Each week you will work a different shift pattern of either 07:00 – 15:00, or 11:00 – 19:00.

(The above times are provided as a guide and exact shift patterns may vary.)

Please note that a UK Driver’s license is required for the roles based at Bude and Scarborough.

The application window for our Security Officer role will open on Monday 3rd April at 10am. In the meantime, we encourage:

•    All those from an ethnic minority background
•    Women from any ethnic background

to register their interest in this forthcoming opportunity.

As part of the registration of interest, you will be invited to several online events prior to the campaign opening. There will be an Insight Event where you can find out more about the role, hear from real staff and have the chance to ask us all questions. We are also offering a Skills Event which will provide general tips about completing a job application, preparing for interview etc. These events will run on:

Insight Event – Wednesday 29th March at 12pm
Skills Event – Friday 31st March at 1pm

The events will last for approximately 1 hour.

Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself.  Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply for the Security Officer role will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.

We are confining registrations of interest to these groups only, due to their current under-representation in our workforce.  Once the application window has opened, we welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, disability and/or any other characteristic(s). Please check our nationality eligibility criteria requirements. https://www.gchq-careers.co.uk/how-to-apply.html

All applications will be assessed solely on merit.

This Program / Vacancy is closed to applications.
