GCHQ, the longest standing code-breaking intelligence agency in the UK, is offering you an exciting opportunity to join our Research and Innovation department as a Cloud Software Engineer.

The Role

GCHQ’s Research and Innovation Department is increasingly developing its innovative capabilities using cloud technologies as the wider business is beginning to migrate to such platforms. This includes the platforms and services offered by public hyper-scale cloud vendors and open source based private cloud instances based on the Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s software landscape (e.g. Kubernetes). Working closely with our researchers your role will be crucial in ensuring we deliver an efficient, scalable and secure capabilities that adhere to best practise and realise the full potential of the rapidly evolving cloud platforms and services.  

You’ll work closely with researchers to provide software engineering guidance and collaborative development effort to deliver iterative maturation of research prototypes to full operational capabilities. The provision of platforms and services to aid the automation of this process also falls within the scope of this role. Working side by side with researchers, you’ll play a crucial role in meeting the mission goals of GCHQ.


Requirements


We’re looking for a proactive DevOps engineer with experience of delivering scalable capabilities using Kubernetes and microservice architectures. We are seeking someone with a passion for the continually evolving technologies and services used on such platforms. A consummate communicator you’ll work closely with and bring together teams of developers, using strong communication skills to guide the engineering elements of novel capabilities.

Experience of the following is essential:

  • Developing on Kubernetes along with Developing capabilities upon serverless technologies.

Experience of the following is desirable:

  • AWS architectures and services (essential within 1-2 years).
  • Azure architectures and services.
  • Engineering cost efficient capabilities that use machine learning and/or artificial intelligence techniques upon cloud technologies.
