The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the UK’s authority for cyber security advice and incident management. It is a fundamental part of how we aim to make the UK the safest place to live and work online. Part of GCHQ, the NCSC manages national cyber incidents, provides an authoritative voice and centre of expertise on cyber security, and delivers tailored support and advice to departments, regulators and industry. We are offering you an exciting opportunity to join our NCSC Cyber Assessment team as an analyst.

The Role and Requirements

This is an exciting time to be part of the Government’s work in transforming the UK’s cyber security. Cyber is consistently at the top of the political agenda; hostile states and criminals pose an imminent and credible threat to UK security and prosperity. NCSC Assessment is the UK's authoritative voice on cyber assessment; it is our job to make sense of this complex environment for operational and strategic decision makers. We seek to work out who is behind these attacks, and what it all means for UK cyber security and the wider geopolitical environment.
NCSC Cyber Assessment is recruiting analysts in London and Cheltenham to join one of our regional (e.g. Far East) or thematic (e.g. Cybercrime) teams. These targets are complex; the work is varied and interesting, bringing together the technical, operational and political aspects of cyber security.

Working in NCSC Cyber Assessment, you will help bridge the gap between the intelligence machine and strategic policy customers. Writing both in-depth papers and fast turn-around incident assessments, your work will contribute to tackling major national and international security issues and will influence senior decision makers and policy development.

The role involves:

  • Research and analysis
  • Writing and editing papers
  • Briefing customers and partners
  • Making judgements and assessments
  • Consulting and managing stakeholders
  • Representing NCSC Assessment at a range of forums

We are looking for curious minds and critical thinkers with excellent drafting skills to join our team producing cyber assessments for a senior audience.

We have analyst posts available at GC9 / HEO level, we would also consider applications from GC8/SEO level. Our posts are open to those who are new to intelligence assessment and cyber security. Comprehensive training will be provided in both professional assessment techniques and cyber security. While the role is challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we accommodate reduced hours or job share options, balanced against business needs.
