First Line IT Support Roles

GCHQ, the longest standing code-breaking intelligence agency in the UK, is offering you an exciting opportunity to join our IT Department as First Line IT Support.

THE ROLE

Using our excellent technical experience and expertise, we provide intelligence and protect information as part of our mission to safeguard our people, businesses and interests. To support our mission, opportunities are now available within our IT Department.

This area is key to our mission and we’re looking for enthusiastic people who have the ability to use computers and related technology efficiently. Applicants should also be customer focused and comfortable working in fast-paced team environments.

IT Service Desk

The IT Service Desk provides a unique opportunity to learn about IT at GCHQ in a helpdesk environment.  This team provides high quality first line IT support to customers through investigation of fault reports.  Responding to customers queries via telephone, face-to-face, self-service fault logging and instant messaging, the successful applicant will use an extensive range of tools and knowledge repositories to quickly restore service.  The right candidate will have excellent customer service skills, a desire to learn, ability to work well within a team and good communication skills.  

(Rota between the hours of 0800-1600 or 0900-1700).

IT Access Management

The IT Access Management team provides an excellent opportunity to learn about IT at GCHQ. The team is responsible for providing customers with IT accesses and/or accounts across the IT infrastructure through various administration tools. The role is customer driven and focuses on granting accesses to meet business needs, which are forever changing in our line of work. The high volume of work and constant change in customer demands makes no two days the same. You’ll have good customer service and communication skills, a desire to learn and is comfortable working on a range of tasks. Good team working skills are essential for this role.

While the roles are challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we accommodate reduced hours or job share options, balanced against business needs.

Successful applicants will be placed in one of a number of areas and subject to a 3 year occupancy period, where they will be able to develop their IT skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A-C (Including Maths and English)
  • You will be required to complete 3 questions within the application process that has a pass mark set and those successful candidates will be invited to interview.

SALARY

Salary of £18,495 (on a pro rata basis)

LOCATION

Cheltenham (located within an hour’s journey of Birmingham and Bristol)
