The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The NCSC is at the heart of the Government’s new cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and do business online. NCSC are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced data analyst or data scientist to support data analysis, insight and innovation across the Digital Active Cyber Defence services.


Key Responsibilities

The right candidate will be someone who enjoys finding patterns in data and solving interesting analytical problems, to work alongside the Active Cyber Defence projects. Working with real data from current services, they will help to create new insights, which will directly influence the NCSC’s approach to cyber security.

This is a primarily technical role; however, the right candidate will also have good delivery skills. They will be a good communicator and be able to explain complex technologies to a range of audiences. They should be able to demonstrate proficiency with at least one general purpose scripting language, such as Python, but also be able to quickly adapt to new technologies when required.

The successful candidate will be required to show proficient time management skills, and be comfortable working in an Agile working environment.

Job Requirements

Strong technical capability and literacy, supported by excellent analytical and communication skills

Technical Skills:

• Interest or understanding of technical and application security
• Proficiency in a scripting language

The following would also be advantageous, but are not specifically required. The ability to understand the core concepts is more relevant:

• Data handling libraries such as Numpy & Pandas
• Common web development technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5 & CSS
• Cloud storage technologies such as AWS and OpenStack
• React.js, three.js, pixi.js and D3
• Graph compute modules such as Gaffer
• Statistical Analysis
• Network, server and cloud infrastructure support

Interpersonal and Business Skills:

• Technical and executive report writing
• Presentation skills
