The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the UK’s authority for cyber security advice and incident management. It is a fundamental part of how we aim to make the UK the safest place to live and work online. Part of GCHQ, the NCSC manages national cyber incidents, provides an authoritative voice and centre of expertise on cyber security, and delivers tailored support and advice to departments, regulators and industry. We now have an exciting opportunity to join our Digital Government team as an Active Cyber Defence Services Owner.

THE ROLE

The Digital Government team within NCSC has a multidisciplinary team (DevOps) devoted to producing Active Cyber Defence (ACD) solutions.  These help protect Government departments and other Governmental bodies against the significant cyber threats.  Each service has a delivery manager (project manager), product owner, technical lead and the new role of service owner.

Working with the Digital Government Relationship Managers, your excellent people skills will enable you to reach out to customers to understand the requirements for the ACD services on offer and use various opportunities to promote the services and encourage take-up.

Working alongside the product owner and the developers, you’ll devise a plan for the continual service improvements and act as the champion. This will extend throughout the lifecycle of the service and well beyond the project phase.

You’ll work closely with the platform support team, to deliver our services, including:  the availability of the service, an effective help desk, change management, capacity management, incident management and recovery. You’ll be responsible for service reviews and service reporting.  You’ll manage the business case for the services and ensure the necessary resources are available. You will help determine the longevity of the services and the eventual decommissioning.

Our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we accommodate reduced hours or job share options, balanced against business needs.

REQUIREMENTS

We’re looking for an individual with a well-rounded experience in IT system development and service management. Knowledge of Cyber and ITIL would be advantageous but not essential provided you have comparable experience.

A positive team player with excellent people skills you’ll work closely with staff and contractors to deliver our services by providing effective leadership.  Being able to work with customers to understand their needs and offer services effectively is essential. Presentational skills and experience along with effective communications are essential given your pivotal role between customers and development / support teams.

A solid record of delivery in a mixed discipline team environment is important. The DevOps team uses the Agile methodology and experience of that or similar developmental techniques would be useful.  Appreciation of project management terminology and project lifecycles would be advantageous.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

At GCHQ we’re proud of our inclusive and supportive working environment that’s designed to encourage open minds and attitudes. As an organisation that values and nurtures talent, we’re committed to helping you fulfil your potential. With comprehensive training and development opportunities, tailored to your needs and the requirements of your work, we’ll enable you to flourish in your role and perform to the very best of your abilities.
