GCHQ, the longest standing code-breaking intelligence agency in the UK, is offering you an exciting opportunity to join our Estates Team as a Head of Departmental Engineering Configuration and Standards.

THE ROLE

Estates are transforming the way we ensure our sites are safe and compliant. We are working with our industry partners to introduce standardisation for Compliance across our sites. We are constantly reviewing our processes and training ensuring that we have a pragmatic approach, compliant with existing standards and industry best practice, supporting Mission delivery.                                                                                                  

As the Head of the Departmental Engineering Configuration and Standards team you will be the focal point for providing support on Hard Facilities Management and the associated infrastructure for setting the standards for others to follow.  Providing guidance on electrical and mechanical infrastructure, heat power and cooling to Estates Services and Projects and other areas of the business including Data Centres.                                                                           

Under your management the Departmental Engineering Configuration and Standards team will develop a suite of technical guidance documents for all aspects of our facilities infrastructure that set the minimum configuration and standards for electrical and mechanical services across the enterprise. Ensuring our legal compliance whilst encompassing the requirement to provide VFM, sustainability and support for Mission delivery.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the guidance documentation is published electronically, communicated, maintained and updated to give a focused set of standards in accordance with Legislation, Guidance, Crown recommendations and GCHQ requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

You will have a wide range of mechanical and electrical knowledge relevant to buildings infrastructure, applicable technical skills and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a solid M&E background with a recognised technical qualification in a Hard FM related subject, supported by relevant recent experience. Able to demonstrate a good knowledge of H&S legislation, ideally holding or working towards NEBOSH General Certificate.

For this role you will need to have strong interpersonal skills, in particular networking and making contacts. The partnership with our Total Facilities Management provider is still developing, the successful applicant will demonstrate diplomatic and interpersonal skills needed to grow this relationship.  It is also essential to be a self-starter, prepared to act on your own initiative and able to drive tasks through to a successful conclusion. Good organisational abilities, positive, can-do attitude and pragmatic approach to problems, looking for solutions rather than obstacles, are essential.

SALARY

Salary of £41,638 (on a pro rata basis)

LOCATION

Cheltenham with regular travel to other GCHQ sites
