Cyber Insights Summer School

GCHQ is offering you an exciting opportunity to join our 10-week Cyber Insights Summer School, from July 2019.

ABOUT US

As one of Britain’s intelligence agencies, we unlock the complex world of communications to keep our nation safe. We work closely with MI5 and MI6, our partners in the intelligence community, to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats. Think cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. It’s challenging, varied and meaningful work that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

THE ROLE

GCHQ is keen to invest in enhancing your talent and Cyber skills. On our Summer School, you’ll get an insight into how GCHQ uses innovative technologies, and get the chance to see how your passion for technology could help protect the UK. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for students considering a future career in Cyber intelligence.

You’ll be paid for the ten-week course, and we’ll also provide you with accommodation. At the end of the course, if you have the aptitude and enthusiasm we're looking for, we may offer you the chance to join another of our development programmes, or even a job.

You’ll be part of a close-knit cohort, and have access to a comprehensive training and development package that will include:

• pre-learning opportunities available to you prior to the start of the summer school;
• world-class cyber experts delivering interactive lectures, workshops and practical learning through application;
• individual and group real-time exercises in a supportive and modern learning environment and organised social activities;
• a unique opportunity to visit the Headquarters of GCHQ.

REQUIREMENTS

We’re looking for motivated and committed individuals from all backgrounds who have an aptitude for problem solving. You’re also able to write basic code in at least one computer language and have an interest in a number of relevant cyber-focused areas such as networking or online security.

You’ll be graduating between summers 2020-2023. Plus, you’re:

• on track for a minimum 2:2 degree or a Joint Honours degree in a STEM subject.
• available for 10 weeks in Cheltenham from 8th July to 13th September 2019.
• a British national who’s been resident in the UK for 5+ years.

At GCHQ we’re proud of our inclusive and supportive working environment that’s designed to encourage open minds and attitudes. As an organisation that values and nurtures talent, we’re committed to helping you fulfil your potential. With comprehensive training and development opportunities we’ll enable you to grow your skills and perform to the best of your abilities.
