The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The NCSC is at the heart of the Government’s new cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and do business online. The NCSC Active Cyber Defence (ACD) programme is designed to mitigate a significant proportion of basic cyber-attacks in a relatively automated way.

The NCSC is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced developer with an interest in analysis or a data scientist / data analyst with an interest in programming, to build analysis capability and to support data insight across the Digital ACD services.

This is a primarily technical role, with the right candidate undertaking some technical leadership and mentoring within the team.

The role can be tailored to the right candidate but you should fulfill the following:

• You will be interested in gaining insights into Cyber Security from the NCSC's ACD program and in building technical solutions using innovative technology to have an impact on the UK’s Cyber Security.

• You will also be able to demonstrate proficiency with at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python. Strong experience in web development technologies would be a plus.

• You will be a competent communicator; being able to explain complex technical scenarios to a wide variety of potential stakeholders.

• You will have proficient time management skills, and be comfortable working in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strong technical capability and literacy, supported by excellent analytical and communication skills.

Technical Skills:

• Interest or understanding of cyber security
• Proficiency in a scripting language
• Technical leadership

The following would also be advantageous, but are not specifically required. The ability to understand the core concepts is more relevant:

• Data handling libraries such as Numpy & Pandas
• Cloud storage technologies such as AWS and OpenStack
• React.js, three.js, pixi.js and D3
• Graph compute modules such as Gaffer
• Common web development technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5 & CSS
• Statistical analysis
• Network, server and cloud infrastructure support

Interpersonal and Business Skills:

• Technical and executive report writing
• Presentation skills
