THE ROLE

Our mathematicians solve varied and interesting problems, using analytical skills and a broad range of mathematical approaches. We work in areas including cryptography and cryptanalysis; network exploitation; cyber security; data science; machine learning; mathematical modelling; and many more.  These disciplines rely on the application of a variety of topics from pure and applied mathematics, including, but not limited to, algebra, probability, number theory, statistics and optimisation.  Working collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, we produce innovative technical capabilities, often using some of Europe’s most powerful computers, to deliver world-class knowledge and expertise, and to influence decisions made by government agencies.

REQUIREMENTS

To reflect the developing challenges we face, we’re actively looking for individuals with backgrounds in maths, computer science or any other subject with substantial mathematical content.  For all positions, we’re looking for candidates who demonstrate mathematical curiosity, an enthusiasm for problem solving and a willingness to learn new skills.  An interest in technology and/or experience in programming is desirable but not essential.

To apply for these roles, you should have or expect to obtain shortly, at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in a mathematical discipline, including (but not limited to) mathematics, computer science, statistics and physics and at least an A grade (or equivalent) in A-Level mathematics.

Candidates who have recently obtained, or are in the final stages of a doctorate, could be considered for a post at a higher grade (see salary section below for details).

All new starters will have access to substantial internal training, covering both mathematical and technological topics and will be assigned a mentor upon joining.

SALARY

Entry-level: a minimum salary of £26,091
Experienced: a minimum salary of £31,883
Salary will be on a pro rata basis.
This role attracts a specialist recruitment bonus

- Assessment Centre, comprising:
•    Maths aptitude test
•    Programming aptitude tests
•    Technical group exercise
•    Interview
•    Drug test

The assessment centre will be held in Cheltenham on 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 21st and 22nd of January 2019.

If you successfully complete these stages, you’ll receive a job offer, conditional upon you completing our developed vetting (DV) process which enables you to obtain the level of security clearance required to perform this vital role.
