GCHQ, the UK’s intelligence, security and cyber agency, is offering you an exciting opportunity to join one of their larger Directorates as Communications and Engagement Lead for Offensive Cyber

THE ROLE

The UK is one of the world’s leading top tier cyber powers. GCHQ works in partnership with
the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to maintain global leadership in this area.

Offensive Cyber is a rapidly evolving and increasingly important part of the UK’s national security mission. By being able to actively tackle online the people and states who manipulate, deny, disrupt degrade or destroy targeted computers, information systems or networks we continue to ensure the security of our country and its people.

In 2019, the digital world is the real world. And through offensive cyber, we are able to harness the skills and talents of both GCHQ and the MoD to build the tools, techniques and tradecraft to combat the UK’s threats in cyber space.

Our ability to inform and engage with our many stakeholders and audiences is key to our success. We’re looking for an experienced communications and engagement professional who is comfortable working across organisational boundaries in a complex, high profile and fast-moving environment.

The successful candidate will be confident at building relationships with and influencing a range of stakeholders at all levels within GCHQ, MoD and across Whitehall.

REQUIREMENTS

As the Communications and Engagement Lead for Offensive Cyber you will:

•    Immerse yourself as part of the GCHQ team, building strong relationships with counterparts in MoD
•    Develop an overarching communications and engagement strategy for internal GCHQ employees as well as wider stakeholder audiences, and make recommendations about the most effective engagement methods to meet those needs
•    Develop feedback mechanisms, capture key issues and action as necessary
•    Develop and rehearse high profile communication announcements
•    Draft and edit creative communication, in a range of formats, to support internal and external stakeholder and media communication activities
•    Report on progress against the objectives set out in the communications and engagement plan
•    Scope the role and the communications resource requirements
•    Lead and line manage a small team of communications and engagement colleagues
•    Become part of GCHQ’s professional network of communicators and work closely with colleagues in the central Communications and Engagement team.

SALARY

Salary of £54,532 (on a pro rata basis), plus £5,500 London Pay Addition if applicable.

LOCATION

The job will be based in Cheltenham or London and will involve some travel, mainly within the UK.
