The Government Communications Headquarters is one of the UK’s Security and Intelligence Agencies.  We work closely with the UK’s other security and intelligence agencies, MI5 and the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) and our work protects the vital interests of the UK.  We provide information to support government policy making relating to national security and operations undertaken by the military and law enforcement, and we are at the heart of the fight against terrorism.

GCHQ are looking for an employment lawyer to join a small and agile team providing advice across a range of employment-related topics, including employment tribunal cases and other employment-related legal proceedings. GCHQ lawyers work very flexibly as a team and the post is likely to appeal to individuals who are happy to work as a self-starting team player in a dynamic environment; you’ll also work closely with employment lawyers based in other government departments.
 
The role will be based in Cheltenham but can comprise an element of home working.

The post-holder must be qualified to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England & Wales.

The essential requirements for the employment law role are:
•    Knowledge of and experience in employment law and employment-related litigation;
•    Excellent legal professional skills and powers of analysis and judgement;
•    Ability to prioritise effectively and work well under pressure;
•    Experience of explaining complex legal points in a readily accessible way and providing practical advice, quickly and concisely;
•    Strong inter-personal, presentational, communication skills.

Desirable for the role:
•    Knowledge and experience in general public law.

Salary
Total reward package of £60,341 - £65,782 (this is made up of basic salary + £2,771 Concessionary Payment)
