You’ll have a lot of freedom and autonomy, you’ll work closely with colleagues and we’ll trust you to decide the best way to get things done; whether something requires high quality or a quick turnaround; how best to organise yourselves as part of a group and how best to meet the needs of the mission.

Above all there is a strong purpose to your work as a Software Engineer for GCHQ, you’ll be central to our work to keep the country safe.
 
Further Details:

Whilst the languages we use most at the moment are Javascript, C++, Java and Python. It is far more important that you are able to learn new languages and libraries and keep yourself up to date.

We value your engineering mindset, tenacity and perseverance with problems that seem unsolvable.

You’ll often be working in Agile software delivery teams, your knowledge and skill across all disciplines of software will be important to your new team.

This isn’t an ordinary software engineering job, you’ll often be required to be creative and innovative to solve problems with no precedent in other industries.

Software Engineers

Total Package: £36,692 (this is made up of basic salary £31,045 + £3,500 specialist pay + £2,147 Concessionary Payment)

We’re looking for Software Engineers who are:

• Have proven software development experience of at least one year     

• Are comfortable developing complex software features and working within a software team.

• Are self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance and sometimes guide others

• Are able to critically assess their own work and that of others inside the team

• Are keen to keep up with new and emerging technologies.

Senior Software Engineers

Total Package: £44,402-£47,634 (this is made up of basic salary acquiring-applying + £7,500 specialist pay + £2,147 Concessionary Payment)

We’re looking for Senior Software Engineers who are:

• Comfortable leading the development of complex software features or leading a software team.

• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance and sometimes guide others.

• Able to critically assess your own work and that of others both inside and outside of the team.

• Good at mentoring and developing others.

• Keen to keep up with new and emerging technologies and look to lead in their adoption to solve mission problems.
 
Lead Software Engineer

Total Package: £52,981-£58,202 (this is made up of basic salary acquiring-applying + £7,500 specialist pay + £2,386 Concessionary Payment)

We’re looking for Senior Software Engineers who are:

• Experienced and comfortable leading the design and development of complex software features or leading a software team/multiple teams.

• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance and sometimes guide others.

• Able to critically assess their own work and that of others both inside and outside of the  team
    
• Good at mentoring and developing others

• Keen to keep up with new and emerging technologies and look to lead in their adoption to solve mission problems.
