GCHQ employs highly-skilled Language Analysts in a wide range of languages.  We will soon be looking to recruit in the following languages for positions in Cheltenham: Bengali, Sylheti, Gujarati, Hindi, Mirpuri/Potohari, Pashto, Punjabi, Urdu, Swahili, Korean, and Greek in combination with another European language.  We will also have openings in both Cheltenham and Scarborough for the following: Persian and any dialect of NATIVE Arabic.  We would love to hear from you if you have native speaker capability or graduate-level knowledge of one or more of these languages.  (However, please note that non-native speakers or graduates in Arabic should apply via our Arabic Language Specialists campaign.)  No formal qualification in the language is required, but you must have the ability to write in clear, fluent English.

An in-depth knowledge and understanding of a variety and communities and languages isn’t just an advantage, it is crucial for our work.  We will be looking for well-motivated people who are comfortable with IT and happy to work in a constantly changing technological environment.  You will also need to have drive, initiative, perseverance, and a naturally enquiring and analytical mind that is capable of looking beyond the obvious.  However, you don’t need to be a technical expert as full training will be provided.


In return, we offer a starting salary of £26,091 with the potential to earn over £30,000 within 3 years.
