GCHQ is offering you an exciting opportunity to be an Intelligence Analyst.

ABOUT US

As one of Britain’s intelligence agencies, we unlock the complex world of communications to make a real difference to the safety of the nation. We work closely with our partners in the intelligence community to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats. Think cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. It’s challenging and varied work that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

THE ROLE

Analysis is at the heart of what GCHQ does and our analysts are at the very hub of our workforce.  Information comes from across the globe, in all kinds of formats, and your job as an analyst is to make sense of it.  Working collaboratively in teams, you will process a large range of data – defining, analysing, distilling & interpreting it in order to produce insightful and impactful reports for our partners and customers.  These reports inform foreign policy, military operations, law enforcement activity and national security.  You’ll tackle a variety of challenging problems, sometimes involving a high degree of uncertainty.  Our comprehensive Analysis Development Programme provides you with all the training you’ll need to begin your career as an intelligence analyst, including courses such as network security, encryption, and analytical thinking.  It also provides mentoring and consolidation training and a rotation of work placements to give you the very best start towards being the best analyst you can be.

While the role is challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we look to accommodate reduced hours or job share options balanced against business needs.

REQUIREMENTS

We’re looking for people from all backgrounds, with great analytical skills who enjoy being challenged.  You’ll be comfortable with technology, but don’t worry if you don’t have a tech background as we’ll provide full training from day one. You’ll have (or will obtain by September 2018) a minimum 2:2 Honours Degree in any subject, along with excellent communication skills and an interest in world affairs.  Our world is always changing and presenting us with new analytical problems, and in order to give us the best possible chance of solving these, we need people who look beyond the obvious, and who think differently.  Some of our very best intelligence analysts joined us without technical knowledge, but with a curiosity about technology, a passion for learning and an ability to never give up on a problem.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

At GCHQ we’re proud of our inclusive and supportive working environment that’s designed to encourage open minds and attitudes. As an organisation that values and nurtures talent, we are committed to helping you fulfil your potential. But you are not expected to come to us with a wealth of knowledge or skills on day one. Through comprehensive training and development opportunities, tailored to your needs and the requirements of your work, we will enable you to grow into your role and perform to the best of your abilities.
