GCHQ offers a unique and exciting opportunity for students considering a career in intelligence through the 2016 Cyber Insiders Summer School in Cheltenham.

The programme is designed to offer an outstanding, challenging experience for undergraduates studying Computer Science, Maths, Physics or similar and aims to enhance your cyber skills and show you how GCHQ uses a variety of technologies to protect our nation.  

The programme is instructor-led with:
•    World class experts in cyber, delivering lectures/workshops and participating in discussions
•    Practical learning through application using real projects with support team engagement
•    Online and social learning, especially for pre-learning activity and continuous learning opportunities following the Summer School
•    Real-time exercises to allow students to use their new skills as individuals or via collaborative working
•    Visits to the Headquarters of GCHQ

SALARY – There will be a day attendance payment of £50 (based on a 5-day week) plus your accommodation.

Skills & qualifying Requirements:


You will have an aptitude for problem solving, an interest in cyber beyond that of your university studies and are skilled in at least one computer language e.g. C, C#, C++, Python, Perl or Java.

You must be graduating between summers 2016-2019 and studying for your first degree in:  Computer Science, Physics or Maths, a combination of or a closely related course:
-Be on track for a minimum 2.2 degree
-Be willing to sign the Official Secrets Act and undergo security clearance.
-Be available for 10 weeks in Cheltenham, 4th July 2016 to 9th September 2016
-Be a British national
-Have been resident in the UK for +10 years

At the end of your placement you will be given the opportunity to apply for future student summer schemes or permanent employment at GCHQ under the Computer Network Operations Specialist (CNOS) role. CNOS details can be found here

As part of this campaign you will be required to undergo a staged selection process including:

•    Interview
