Information Specialist

Job Purpose

SIS is looking to recruit an information specialist to join a team working to maximise the department's mastery of its data and the effective management of its information. The department is becoming an increasingly data-driven organisation, placing data, knowledge and information at the heart of everything they do, enabling them to get maximum value at pace from all of their data. As a specialist in data, knowledge, information or records management, you will deliver advice and guidance and ensure compliance with policy, records management standards and best practice.

Key job responsibilities

As a member of a diverse team of information and records managers you would be working closely in a customer-facing role, initially with a focus on records management, with the opportunity to broaden and develop skills and work across a number of related subject areas including policy, information and knowledge management, data management, data governance and compliance. You will be able to develop a strong understanding of the aims and objectives of the department and its teams and by providing information management expertise, you will enable the department to derive maximum benefit from its data and information and enhance the department's delivery of its strategic goals.

Ideally, you will have several years' practical experience in at least one of the following: working with an electronic records management system (EDRMS); managing intranet or social media content; developing information policies; managing data as an asset; knowledge management; compliance monitoring. This will enable you to contribute to strategic planning on information management and structuring, and to teams' use of information at their disposal. You will also need to work in an agile manner, managing a range of systems and ensuring that developments in information management tools and practices are implemented. We pride ourselves in investing in learning and development, to get the most from our people so if your background is in one discipline you will have the chance to broaden and strengthen your skills.

You should have proven strong written and verbal communication skills which will enable you to share your expertise effectively with the teams to whom you will work closely, identify effective ways to communicate policy and best practice and respond to queries. By analysing behaviours and ensuring compliance you will identify opportunities to enhance training and, with others, help design and if appropriate deliver training packages to meet general and bespoke training needs.
Combining your communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills, you will influence stakeholders, including at senior levels, to shape the department's information requirements, and engage with project teams as a subject matter expert.

Qualifications

You will have a professional qualification in information/records/data management or information/data governance and relevant experience.
