About us

We’re the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6. We work with the UK’s foreign partners to support global stability by combating international terrorism and the spread of weapons. We work secretly around the world, gathering intelligence to promote and protect the UK’s interests and help stay ahead of our adversaries.

The role

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll make sure we’ve got the skills, tools and systems we need to protect the UK. You’ll do this by leading the delivery of exciting and complex change projects and activities. Working with senior leaders, you’ll get to grips with problems, find efficient ways of working and report on progress. You’ll also influence top-level thinking and decision-making across a range of teams.

When working with subject matter experts – both internally and externally – you’ll make sure everyone knows what’s expected of them. You’ll look to proactively upskill others and share your knowledge when mentoring and coaching other colleagues.

Day-to-day, you’ll deliver projects within tight timeframes and to agreed cost and resource constraints. As part of this, you’ll use a blend of recognised project management and change tools and frameworks to manage risks and achieve agreed outcomes. At times, the work will be ambiguous, so you’ll use your skills to balance a range of priorities, all while keeping focused. While you’ll pay great attention to detail, you’ll enjoy the freedom to think innovatively to deliver great results.

About you

You’ll be a qualified project management practitioner with experience of putting multiple methodologies into practice. You’ll have professional PPM qualification where you’ll either be chartered or hold MAPM status or accredited in Prince 2/MSP/ Agile/Scaled Agile.

Ideally, you’ll have experience of IT delivery. But more importantly, you’ll be motivated by the positive impact you’ll have here. You’ll enjoy juggling competing demands helping other people across the organisation. And with great communication skills, you’ll have the confidence to influence others and take senior leaders on a journey with you. This’ll all be supported by your background of inspiring teams with different professions to deliver desired outcomes.

Training and development

We’re hugely committed to staff development, so you’ll benefit from a broad range of development and training opportunities. As soon as you join, you’ll be supported to achieve your full potential. You’ll quickly understand what we do and how we do it, including how we operate overseas. And because we value professional skills, we’ll also offer you an additional allowance to develop in these areas. We also support flexible working arrangements and actively encourage a healthy work-life balance.

You’ll receive a starting salary of £50,149 plus other benefits including:

-    25 days’ annual leave, automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years' service, and an additional 10.5 days’ public and privilege holidays
-    Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
-    Opportunities to work flexibly, subject to business needs
-    Interest-free season ticket loan
-    Excellent pension scheme
-    Cycle to work scheme
-    Facilities such as a subsidised gym and restaurant, and on-site coffee bars
-    Paid parental and adoption leave

Culture and working environment

As part of our team, you’ll discover an inclusive workplace that’s welcoming, supportive and encouraging. •    Ethnic Minority and gender equality networks
