We’re MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligent Service. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. The role

You will be joining a busy team, who provide a full range of logistical services in support of their MI6 colleagues who are based in the United Kingdom and overseas.  The team play a critical role in enabling MI6 operational capabilities.

The role is based in West London with good public transport links and private parking facilities.  Occasionally however you may be required to work at a number of sites within the M25 and across the wider United Kingdom.  In addition, this role also provides the potential for international travel. 

As a Logistics Operator you are the face of the Estates Department and will be the first person most of our couriers meet when making deliveries.

  • Your day-to-day week will be varied and can include:
    • Goods In: Receipt, x-ray scanning (training provided), unpacking, recording deliveries on internal IT systems.
    • Despatch: Packing freight to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standards, bagging (overwrapping) consignments to move as Diplomatic freight, updating IT systems.
    • Driving: Forklift, transit vans etc…
    • Asset Management: Recording equipment details on IT systems.
    • Escort Duties: Provide safe movement of Diplomatic Freight within the UK and overseas as required.
  • A flexible working attitude is essential.
  • 41 hours per week (Monday – Friday 07:45 – 16:00).
  • Some working outside these hours may be required for which overtime will be paid.
  • There are no line management responsibilities in this role.

Some travel between UK sites is expected.  Some overseas travel may be available, but this is voluntary.

About you

Previous logistics and warehousing experience would be an advantage as would a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Full UK driving licence.

This is a physically demanding role for example lifting and moving packages, diplomatic bags and the loading & unloading of vehicles.  The applicant would need to pass an Occupational Health Assessment prior to being appointed.

You should be comfortable working in a customer facing role, dealing with couriers as well as colleagues from across the organisation at all grades.  You need to be a good communicator and happy working in a team.  We need people who can switch between jobs as priorities change during the day - No day (or week) is ever the same.

There is a wide range of internal and external courses available not only for the specific role such as Forklift truck and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) movement of dangerous goods by air but also those with wider benefit such as Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) Managing Safely and First Aid at Work.

All joiners to MI6 receive an induction where you will learn more about who we are and what we do to give context to your role within our wider mission. You will also receive a H&S workplace induction to include Risk Assessments and Method Statements as part of your role.

You will be given help and support to learn the role, procedures and IT systems from your colleagues and manager.

What to Expect

Our recruitment process is fair, transparent, and based on merit. Here is a brief overview of each stage, in order:

  • You will complete an application form which will be sifted by the hiring team.
  • If successful, you will be invited to a one-day assessment centre (online or in person tbc) which includes:
  • Documents check
  • Competency question-based interview
  • Drugs test
  • Occupational Psychologist interview
  • If successful at Assessment Centre, you will be invited back for a driving assessment and a physical fitness to work assessment by a member of our Occupational health team.
  • If successful you will be given a Conditional Offer of appointment, subject to passing vetting and other checks carried out.
  • If you are granted security clearance, you will be given a final offer of employment and invited to sign your employment contract prior to starting your Induction course.

Please note, you must successfully pass each stage of the process to progress to the next. Your application may take around 6 - 9 months to process including vetting, so we advise you continue any current employment until you have received your final job offer.
