Projects and Programme in SIS

Project Management sits at the heart of everything we do here at MI6 – or as we’re more formally called, the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) - and is the enabler for changing the way we work to make us more effective and efficient. Our Project Managers play a unique and vital role in safeguarding the way SIS operates as a global intelligence service in the 21st century. If you have a real passion for delivering change, this is the chance to join us and help to ensure that our intelligence not only stays secret but is accessible and useful to our people and our customers. As part of an innovative, forward-thinking team that’s continuously developing new ways of working, you’ll make sure MI6 has the ability to perform its mission to the very highest level.

About the role

As a Project Manager at MI6 you will be responsible for delivering projects from concept through to operation. You will work across the entire project lifecycle, building multi-disciplinary teams and delivering mission-critical capabilities in a changing environment. Our Project Managers take responsibility for translating business needs into credible, achievable plans, with a focus on incorporating the appropriate standards of performance, reliability and security whilst looking for novel and creative solutions.

About you

•    You will have a proven track record as a Project Manager, with at least 5 years of experience of working on complex, large-scale change/improvement initiatives.
•    You’ll have a range of recognized project management qualifications and accreditations (e.g. PRINCE2, Management of Risk, Managing Successful Programmes, etc.), ideally with membership of a professional body such as the APM or PMI.
•    You will be able to demonstrate a deep experiential understanding of the project management lifecycle.
•    You will have highly effective written and oral communication skills, as well as an ongoing commitment to improve your project management practice.

About SIS

MI6 simply could not operate without our talented multi-disciplinary teams. We exist to collect Britain’s foreign intelligence that helps protect the UK’s security and prosperity. This secret intelligence is gathered all over the world and reported to the Government — informing policies that counter threats to our country including terrorism, regional instability and weapons proliferation. Join us and you’ll receive a full induction into SIS before joining our established Project and Programme Management teams. Following this, we’ll help you develop your skills with individually tailored training to make the most of your talents and interests. Depending on how your career with us progresses, there will be a range of opportunities for you to explore, including membership of professional bodies.

Recruitment Process

Firstly, you will be asked to complete our pre-screening questions. If you do meet these criteria we will then ask you to begin an application. The first step will require you to create a login or log in to an existing account. Once you have successfully started an application, you will be required to complete an initial application form which contains some initial eligibility questions.

If you meet our initial eligibility criteria, we will invite you to complete and submit our full application form. When you have completed all the sections of the application form, please finish the process by using the ‘Submit’ button. We have no access to your form until you do so. We ask candidates to submit within 7 days of starting their application form (or by the closing date) as this will enable us to process it as quickly as possible.

Your application will be reviewed and if successful, you will be invited to complete a video based assessment. Following this, if successful you would then be asked to attend a face to face interview and then an assessment centre.

Please note: You need to be a British citizen, aged 21 or over to apply.

You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or close family member, providing that they are British. They should also be made aware of the importance of discretion.
