Project Management in SIS

Project Management sits at the heart of everything we do here at MI6 – or as we’re more formally called, the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). It is the enabler for changing the way we work to make us more effective and efficient and to keep us ahead of those who seek to do harm to our country and our citizens, wherever they are in the world. Our Project Managers play a unique and vital role in safeguarding the way SIS operates as a global intelligence service in the 21st century. If you have a real passion for delivering change and want to develop your Project Management career in a unique and challenging environment, this is your chance to join us. You will help to ensure that our intelligence not only stays secret but is accessible and useful to our people and our customers. As part of an innovative, forward-thinking team that’s continuously developing new ways of working, you’ll make sure MI6 has the ability to perform its mission to the very highest level.

About the roles

Our Project Managers take responsibility for translating business needs into credible, achievable plans, with a focus on incorporating the appropriate standards of performance, reliability and security whilst looking for novel and creative solutions. As an entry-level Project Manager at MI6 you will join an organization that can offer a varied and stimulating environment in which to develop your career. We offer a combination of formal training backed up with coaching, mentoring and on-the-job exposure to build on your experience, and deepen your understanding of the profession, starting out as part of a larger project team whilst being actively supported by a more experienced Project Manager.

About you

  • You’ll be able to demonstrate three or more years’ recent experience working in the project environment, perhaps as a Project Support Officer or as a trainee Project Manager.
  • You will have a recognized project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)
  • You will be able to demonstrate understanding of the project management lifecycle and possibly have experience of applying some or all of it in a project context.
  • You may be a member of a professional body such as the APM or PMI.

About SIS

MI6 simply could not operate without our talented multi-disciplinary teams. We exist to collect Britain’s foreign intelligence that helps protect the UK’s security and prosperity. This secret intelligence is gathered all over the world and reported to the Government — informing policies that counter threats to our country including terrorism, regional instability and weapons proliferation. Join us and you’ll receive a full induction into SIS before joining our established Project and Programme Management teams. Following this, we’ll help you develop your skills with individually tailored training to make the most of your talents and interests. Depending on how your career with us progresses, there will be a range of opportunities for you to explore, including membership of professional bodies.

If you are looking for a career with more variety, more purpose and more opportunity to build your skills, then please visit sis.gov.uk/careers to apply.

Please note: You need to be a British citizen, aged 21 or over to apply.

You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or close family member providing that they are British. They should also be made aware of the importance of discretion.
