Intelligence
London
£32,700

For over a century we have sought to attract the very best talent the country has to offer into our intelligence officer cadre.  This entry level is aimed predominantly at graduates (or those who are about to graduate in the next few months) and who have limited work experience, but can show potential to be an intelligence officer.

You will be at the start of your career, have a 2:1 degree or expecting to have achieved one by summer 2018, and be a British national. Please do not apply if you have applied previously to this organisation for the roles of Intelligence Officer, Inexperienced Hire, or Operational Data Analyst, within the last two years, and reached a half day testing session or Assessment Day stage, as we will be unable to consider you.   We are looking to recruit graduates to join SIS in the summer of 2018, following the successful completion of the recruitment and vetting processes.

The starting salary will be £32,700.  Successful candidates will spend at least the first two years of their career in London with training starting immediately on joining. There will be opportunities for overseas postings as your career progresses.

If successful you will receive enhanced training and support at the start of your career.  This will include operational training giving candidates the skills to do the three intelligence officer roles (targeter, R officer and case officer) and behavioural training according to personal needs in order to help you transition into a professional environment. You will be supported through a mentoring programme. There may also be opportunities to learn languages. As is the case with all our employees, development opportunities will be available not only at the start of your career, but there will be opportunities to learn and develop skills throughout your career.

The qualities we are looking for are:

•    First class interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
•    A keenness to contribute to the UK’s security and prosperity
•    Mental sharpness
•    A curiosity about the world – an interest in international affairs, travel and foreign cultures are all essential
•    Ability with foreign languages and technology are both advantages

What is important is the mix of these skills, not your background or which university you got your degree from. We want to attract a truly diverse workforce which reflects the society we serve. To achieve this, when we consider your application initially we will not know your name, gender, family background, which school or university you went to, or your grades at A-level.

The Service is also proud to be a member of the Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme in recognition of our commitment to equality of opportunity regardless of sexual orientation.

The application process

You should only discuss your application with a close family member, or your partner, as long as they are British.  They should also be made aware of the need for discretion.  Please check the Nationality and Security Criteria. Unfortunately, no matter how good your application, we won’t be able to accept it unless you meet these criteria – so do check.  If you are living overseas  we advise you to wait until you return to the UK before launching an application: if your main address is overseas, it is unlikely we will be able to progress your application.

After completing an initial short set of questions on eligibility and registering your details, you will be invited to complete two sets of online tests. The next stage will be an application form where you are invited to answer a range of questions relevant to SIS’s values and the competencies we use to assess candidates.

If successful, you will be invited to an assessment day which will consist of an interview, group exercise and further testing. These will take place in late 2017.

Successful candidates will then progress to a final two-day assessment centre, which will take place in the first quarter of 2018.

Any successful candidates will then enter into the vetting process.

(Please note: this position was previously called Inexperienced Hire Intelligence Officer)

Good luck!

Please note the closing date for submitted applications is Friday 20th October 2017.
