There are a wide variety of technical roles within MI6 – or as we’re more formally called, the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) - offering opportunities to develop your skills on a wide array of products and underlying technologies.  Working on a number of vital projects your engineering, software/hardware integration or support skills would be fundamental to intelligence gathering and ultimately help safeguard our nation.  

About the role

Working closely with customers across MI6 and other Government agencies, you will enjoy a varied role using your problem solving skills to address unique challenges and help promote and protect the UK’s national interests both at home and overseas.  We offer opportunities to be involved in all stages of the technical development lifecycle from design and documentation, systems integration through to helping customers resolve problems and fixing faults. You will contribute to the development or integration of highly sensitive technologies enabling MI6 to respond to time critical events.

To enable you to create world firsts, we will help you further develop your skills with individually tailored training packages or via our managed induction programme.

Whilst primarily based in London, you will be required to work at various locations around the UK and there may be some international travel.  

About you

You will have excellent interaction and communication skills and a desire to learn and progress your own development.

We welcome applications from new graduates, those in their final year of study and those who have equivalent experience gained in the workplace.  Your skills may have been developed through a degree, vocational courses/study, experience gained from previous work placements or perhaps a combination of all three.

As an engineering/science graduate or professional within the workspace, you must be able to demonstrate good understanding and expertise in at least one of the following technologies:-

  • Network engineering  (ideally holding relevant certifications) and global connectivity methods including Routers, Switches and Firewalls
  • Mobile communications technologies
  • Bespoke software and hardware development and integration
  • Technical infrastructure design and implementation
  • Knowledge of IT security, forensics and penetration testing, various operating systems, encryption and VPNs.
