Job Description

The Data Engineering Team are a diverse and welcoming team with a broad range of skills, experiences and backgrounds. We work within a supportive, innovative environment with a strong focus on personal and professional development.  The team are critical to the Service’s ability to understand and exploit increacingly large and complex data sets and are undergoing a period of growth.
This role is primarily responsible for analysing and processing raw data acquired from a diverse range of sources, often in highly complicated formats, so that it is available for advanced analysis. This requires the team to work closely with analysis teams, to take a creative approach to problem solving, and to offer support to their colleagues.
This role is closely aligned with the Service’s Data Science team. Successful applicants will be given time to work on Data Science problems and will be given the opportunity to develop the skills required to move into this area if desired.

Job Requirement

As one of the Data Ingestion specialists you will primarily undertake detailed technical analysis and transformation of raw data which will challenge you in areas outside of normal engineering practices. Your core responsibility within the team will be to analyse, cleanse and adapt various incoming data sources into agreed standard forms using a range of different tools.
You will apply your technical knowledge and communication skills to help customers to validate their data and to help them with their analysis, experiments and management of the data where deeper technical knowledge is required.
Successful applicants will be involved in the development of new tools and approaches to ensure that our data engineer capabilities continually improve and evolve. You will work collaboratively with government and commercial partners to share experiences and learn new skills.

  • Competent in Python – Preferred
