£27,490 per annum (pro-rated over 11-week programme £5,574.37)

Dates of Internship: Late June 2022

This is a unique opportunity to improve your technical and analytical skills on an 11-week paid summer internship; you will be working on live projects which will help keep the UK safe.

Technology is at the heart of everything we do at MI5. You’ll be working with – and learning from – experienced and pioneering technical teams, often on projects you won’t find anywhere else. By the end of your internship, you’ll have had a direct and rewarding impact on how we use technology to protect the UK from serious security threats. You’ll be based in one of four technical areas:

Software Engineer
CTOS
Business Analysts
Data Architecture
UX Design (website design team)

Combining problem-solving skills with an aptitude for working with technology, you’ll be a confident communicator, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences. In some areas you’ll need basic coding skills, while in others your logical approach, interest in data flows, or knowledge of computer security or computer forensics will be more important. With basic computer skills, you’ll be comfortable working at a computer for long periods and handling a range of written, numerical, image-based and audio data.

You must be expecting to receive at least a 2:2 degree or equivalent in a technology or wider STEM-related subject by autumn 2023. You should also be available to start permanent employment in autumn 2023 if you wish to progress to our Technology Graduate Development Programme.  Unfortunately, we would not be able to offer either a earlier start date or deferment. For a list of STEM Subject, please click here.

For the duration of the internship you must be able to live in or commute to central London.
