The Role

Our staff are professionals who are committed to creating quality solutions to answer a variety of questions. Our work ranges from strategic delivery to rapidly build solutions to answer imminent intelligence questions from the highest priority investigations. As a result, you could be supporting the business in making strategic decisions in future ways of working or making improvements to our systems which can provide benefit across all business areas.

As a Business Analyst in MI5 you will work across Partnering & Innovation and Engineering teams. You will have the chance to work on some truly unique and often unconventional requirements that will have you collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, customers and technical delivery teams.

Driving effective change requires a Business Analyst who can truly understand our unique problems. You will have the opportunity to deliver technology and business transformation, feeling a real sense of ownership in everything you do.

It is essential to be a team player and strive to work and build strong team ethic, either as part of a P&I team working with key stakeholders or embedded into an Engineering World, working with Product Managers and development teams

Who you are

You will be professional and committed to creating quality solutions to answer a variety of questions.

  • Experience of working as a business analyst; assess complex business problems, gather and analyse requirements from customers/stakeholder and help identify technical/ non-technical solutions.
  • Experience of working in an Agile IT development environment, Experience of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), Experience of data and information analysis
  • Strong influencing skills are essential, along with a natural ability to instil confidence and trust in others.
  • Understand the bigger picture and how your role and work fit into the strategy.
  • Strong communicator, who can articulate complex matters clearly to people at all levels.
  • Delivery focussed, and ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

What you’ll do

You’ll share our collective responsibility to keep the country safe and strive to develop your team as well as yourself. Our teams work closely with each other and with mission customers, so it’s important that you’re able to communicate and share your knowledge.

You’ll be expected to:

  • Gain a common understanding of the business needs through relevant stakeholder engagement at all levels of the business.
  • Translate the needs of the business into Epics and user stories that can be used to design and deliver technical or non-technical based solutions, where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively and strive to build strong relationships with Key Stakeholders, and development teams to ensure the desired solution is delivered and meets the business needs.
  • Investigate complex business problems and identify opportunities for improving systems and/or processes, giving you a real overview and depth of MI5.
  • Share knowledge and proactively seek development to build your knowledge of SAFe agile and other ways of working
  • Manage and coach other business analysts

Recruitment Process

The first thing we will ask you to do is complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. If you do meet these criteria we will then ask you to begin an application.

You will need to create a log in and provide your full name, email address and a memorable password. Once you have successfully created a personal account, you will be required to complete an initial registration form, providing contact details and equal opportunities monitoring information.

You will then be invited to upload your CV and complete an online application form. Our recruitment team will conduct a sift of your application. Successful applicants will be invited to a telephone interview, which will include technical/job specific questions and will explore your motivation to work for MI5. Interview preparation.

Assuming you pass the telephone interview, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre at MI5, which will include a competency interview, to further explore your skills. This will be followed by a security interview with a vetting officer. You should read about the vetting process and satisfy yourself that you meet the criteria outlined in the vetting pages of the How to Apply section prior to submitting an application.
