We are MI5, we protect the UK from threats to national security such as terrorism and espionage. We gather intelligence and work closely with the police and law enforcement to detect threats and work out ways to stop them.

At MI5 it’s equally important that we protect our people, places and property. When you join us as a Project Manager, you’ll help us do just that – from one, or several of our locations.

The Estates Team
The role of the Project Manager is to lead / manage the project and the project team on a day-to-day basis. The Project Manager is responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints. The Project Manager has a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.

The Role
This role oversees project delivery of engineering, construction and property related projects across the MI5 estate. The property and construction project management roles have responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of a project, with a key role in governance and working with stakeholders to deliver against clearly defined outcomes.

•    Health and Safety - Ensure projects meet all Health and Safety Executive and construction industry statutory and legislative standards and are delivered in compliance with estate property policies and procedures
•    Delivery - Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
•    Project Management - Day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team. Set project controls. Design the project structure appropriate to stage. Select and apply appropriate delivery methodologies.
•    Business Case - Coordinate development of the Business Case.
•    Budget - Track delivery within budget.
•    Resources - Schedule / manage resources to deliver the project. May work independently or with a small team.
•    Benefits Realisation - Ensure benefits are identified, understood, measured, tracked and owned. Ensure appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the Business Case.
•    Stakeholder Management - Identify key stakeholders and develop effective relationships.
•    Risks & Issues - Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.
•    Governance - Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making.
•    Assurance - Support or set appropriate project assurance.
•    Change Management - Ensure effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.
•    Guidance & Support - Seek appropriate support, guidance and coaching from the project community. Show commitment to personal development. Promote effective individual and team performance.
•    Project Performance & Controls - Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

About You
You will have a good understanding of project management methodologies, tools and techniques, with experience of helping to manage stakeholders towards the delivery of an agreed scope, balancing commercial performance and business strategy.

You will be adept at managing key suppliers, using your communication skills to support negotiations, management and escalate issues as required. You will be comfortable engaging in decision making that has strategic consequences for the project.  Successful individuals must be qualified Qualification to NVQ Level 5 or higher in a construction or infrastructure related discipline.  You must also be able to demonstrate the appropriate level of Technical & Behavioural competencies required for this role.

Eligibility Criteria

What to Expect
Our recruitment process is fair, transparent, and based on merit. Here is a brief overview of each stage, in order:

Our Vetting
To work in this role you will need the highest security clearance, known as Developed Vetting (DV). It’s something everyone in the UK Intelligence Community has to go through and it can take some time. As part of the DV process you will be asked to fill in a detailed questionnaire and attend an interview with a vetting officer. In your interview the vetting officer will have a thorough, compassionate and honest discussion with you about you as a person and your life experiences, to ensure holding a DV clearance is right for you. You don’t need to do any preparation for your vetting interview, just be honest and be yourself. All applicants for DV are treated impartially and consistently, irrespective of gender, race, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation and other protected characteristics.
