MI5 is responsible for protecting the UK from threats to our National Security. It’s our job to ensure the safety and prosperity of our country, countering threats from terrorism and espionage. Whatever, your role, you will contribute to our mission in keeping the country safe.

Who we are

MI5 operates in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Its technical capabilities are central to its mission to keep the UK safe. It constantly needs to revolutionise the technology that it uses, the ways in which it delivers technical capabilities and how it works with partner agencies in the UK and overseas.

As a Senior Programme Manager at MI5, you will have day-to-day responsibility and accountability for a transformational multi-million-pound programme. These are typically business change programmes enabled by substantial technological delivery. You will be expected to drive the programme from its early shaping stages through to implementation, early life support and eventual closure. This includes the requisite governance forums needed to underpin it.

What you will do

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a critical leadership role within MI5. You will have primary responsibility for the successful delivery of new capabilities for our front line business users. You will set the vision for the programme’s future, inspiring your teams to deliver results.

You will be familiar with iterative planning technique’s plan and will proactively monitor its overall progress. You are an accomplished change professional that has a track record in programmatic delivery.

You will be expected to make the necessary decisions, working with others, to balance conflicting demands across the business, technology and delivery demands in order to achieve the business benefits.

You will manage the programme’s budget, which will typically be £20+ million, monitoring the expenditures and risks against the benefits that are to be realised as the programme progresses. Therefore, sound financial management experience is essential for this role.

Who you are

We are looking for an individual with a proven experience of large scale, systems integration delivery. You will have experience in leading the transition into the business and early life support.

You will have worked in an Agile environment in a medium to large organisation. You will be someone who enjoys technology and keeps up to date with the key trends in this space.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills are essential. You will be required to build and sustain relationships with internal and external partners, including but not limited to our intelligence partners, wider Government and third-party contributors to the programme.
