VACANCY CLOSED

Are you interested in working at the very heart of intelligence in the UK? Whether you’re about to graduate, considering a career change, or just curious to see if being an Intelligence Officer is right for you, register for our insight event now.

Diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission, culture, and values. It’s our collective differences that make us stronger. We’re actively working to increase diversity throughout our organisation. And, as part of this work, we’re running insight events specifically for people from an ethnic minority background*.

Here at MI5, everything you do will help support our mission to keep the UK safe. From terrorist threats to espionage, our intelligence teams work together with their colleagues throughout the UK Intelligence Services to protect national security.

We all have our own way of seeing the world. And your unique style, instincts and judgement won’t just be encouraged here – they’ll be invaluable. You’ll have the chance to make vital contributions to our work, all while developing key skills for your future career, wherever it takes you.

Event details
Our insight events will take place on Wednesday 8th November 2023 at 12.30pm and 5.30pm. Once you register, we’ll send you an invitation to the events and you can pick which time suits you best.

These online events are designed to give you an overview of our Intelligence Officer Development Programme (IODP) and help you decide if becoming an Intelligence Officer is right for you.

We’ll cover:

-    What it’s like to be an Intelligence Officer at MI5
-    How our development programme works
-    The application process
-    Our security vetting process

You’ll also hear from some of our Intelligence Officers about their own experiences and get the chance to participate in a Q&A session.

Is it right for me?
Working at MI5 as an Intelligence Officer might sound like a daunting prospect, but the truth is, you’ve already got a lot of what it takes. You’re likely to have a lot of the skills you need and, when you join, we’ll train you everything you need to know about working in intelligence.

You’ll either need (or be expecting) a 2:2 degree or above in any subject, or you’ll need work experience that’s given you the key skills and qualities you need to do the role. There’s no one type of person that makes a great Intelligence Officer. In fact, we need people with different experiences and ways of thinking to form the strongest teams possible. We are looking for individuals who are naturally curious with a love for learning. You’ll have strong written and verbal communication skills, and you’ll also enjoy working collaboratively with good attention to detail.

You don’t have to be sure about your application at this stage. This event is an opportunity to get further information so you can make the right decision for you. We hope you’ll join us to learn more about the IODP in the next few weeks. And we wish you all the best with your application if you decide to apply.

Please note: registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply to the Intelligence Officer Development Programme, will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened. The application window for the Intelligence Officer Development Programme will open on Monday 13th November 2023

*We are confining registrations of interest for our insight events to those from ethnic minority backgrounds, due to their current underrepresentation in our workforce. Once the IODP is open for applications, we welcome all candidates to apply, regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, disability, neurodivergence and/or any other characteristic(s). Please also check our nationality eligibility criteria requirements.

All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
