We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Manager to oversee a growing team and  take on a leading role in designing and implementing an organisation wide Data Governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organisation behaviour policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture.

Who we are

The Data Office is a new construct within the organisation and works directly to the Chief Data Officer. The team was established to push forward an agenda which focusses on improving the organisation’s Data Fundamentals and establishes solid foundations for the organisation’s wide ranging digital transformation ambitions. The work of the Data Office is at the heart of the organisations strategy.

The Data Governance team is a small unit within the data office which is leading on establishing and managing organisation wide data governance activities with responsibility for improving the quality and value of core data assets.

Our teams

We are a multi-disciplinary team comprised of experts from across the business, alongside specialist architects and analysts. We work with teams from across the organisation as well as key external partners.

Who you are

We’re looking for people who:

•    Have knowledge of industry leading data quality and data management practices.
•    Have knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data management.
•    Have demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design.
•    Demonstratable experience working with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience.
•    Have the ability to develop cooperative and constructive working relationships including with seniors from across the business.
•    Have the ability to articulate vision for transformation efforts and a sense of mission.
•    Can take complex problems and projects and break them down into manageable goals.

What you’ll do

The roleholder will have significant autonomy to improve, refresh and expand on early work to create a new data framework for the organisation. Your influence will establish great change towards the organisation’s data culture.

You will:

•    Establish data governance frameworks including developing appropriate frameworks, processes, roles and responsibilities along with effective training and support to ensure that roles and behaviour change are embedded.
•    Serve as a liaison between business areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for improvement of data are clearly defined, communicated, understood and prioritised.
•    Ensure the protection of sensitive data across the organisation.
•    Agree and roll out appropriate business rules relating to the handling of data.
•    Work with colleagues in the Data Office to assist in establishing reporting frameworks on data quality, with appropriate data quality standards and metrics.
•    Work with data governance roles in the business and the wider Data Office team to develop and manage projects to drive improvements to data quality, in order to support migration/integration with new platforms and the resolution of data issues.
•    Manage data documentation: agree data dictionaries and ensure these are maintained by appropriate stakeholders.
•    Develop and manage support systems for the Data Council, including appointment, induction, appraisal and training.
•    Ensure good quality information flows within the Data Council and between the Data Council and senior management.
•    Work closely with management at various levels to develop and implement the Data Governance Council’s forward roadmap and work programme, review this as required
