MI5 is responsible for protecting the UK from threats to our National Security. In this age of unprecedented technological change, we are embarking on a transformation to ensure we keep our edge and continue to keep the country safe from a range of complex threats. We’re building a team to help drive our transformation across our organisation to ensure we are equipped for our mission now and in the future. We need people who are comfortable with uncertainty, curious about the future and able to adapt to keep us ahead.

Who we are

MI5 is looking for experienced Agile Coaches to join our growing Digital Acceleration Team, helping MI5 to embrace new ways of working which will allow us to keep the country safe, both now and in the future.

We are currently embarking on a transformation to ensure we keep our edge in an increasingly uncertain and data driven world. Supporting teams in changing their mindset on how to solve problems and innovate and encouraging Agile working is integral to our transformation as an organisation.

Our team

As an Agile Coach, you will join our Digital Acceleration team and will help MI5 in encouraging and adopting new ways of working. The team works with teams across the whole of MI5, helping them to work in new and innovative ways to speed up problem solving. As a part of that team, you’ll take learning from the people you work with across the organisation and use it to help MI5 transform at pace.

Who you are

As an Agile Coach you’ll have:

  • A strong knowledge of multiple Agile methods and experience implementing them with teams and large groups.
  • Good technical and process management experience including measurement of progress (KPIs, OKRs) and implementation of new behaviours across multifunctional teams at all levels.
  • Proven experience of coaching and influencing to help teams adopt new ways of working and to shift mindsets and culture. You’ll be able to adapt your coaching skills to suit colleagues of a range of seniorities.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills.
  • Patience and empathy in complex situations.
  • An open minded and creative approach and willingness to embrace challenge and uncertainty.
  • Confidence in communicating complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What you’ll do

As an Agile Coach, you’ll help drive cultural change, building a community of coaches who can coach MI5 seniors, teams and decision makers in adopting new ways of working.

You will:

  • Play a critical role in driving the cultural transformation we need to keep the country safe in a digital world.
  • Coach teams to deliver future capability in experimentation and in how to take an iterative approach to problem solving.
  • Work closely with teams across the organisation to deliver transformation projects.
  • Promote objective-based working, helping to shape how teams adopt new styles of working.
  • Promote taking a user-centred, value driven and iterative approach to delivery.
  • Coach teams to prioritise ruthlessly, removing noise, using metric and information-based decision making.
  • Support colleagues in accepting responsibility for driving transformation and facilitate the shift in decision making to teams.
  • Coach and challenge teams to accelerate progress, and extract learning and insight to help us shape our future.
  • Embrace and share learning, experience and insights with teams across the organisation.
