Technology Roles
London
£31,605 rising to £35,560 after the first year

THIS VACANCY IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW APPLICATIONS.

Any new applications submitted after 11pm on Tuesday 12th January 2016 will not be considered.

Our Technology Graduate Development Programme (TGDP) offers an exciting opportunity to work in a unique and intellectually challenging environment, where technology plays a crucial and increasingly strategic role. Whatever your chosen business area, you’ll be contributing to protecting the UK from threats to national security including terrorism and espionage.

Rather than being a fast stream initiative, or management development scheme, TGDP is a structured programme that gives you the experience, knowledge and skills you need to be an effective technology professional. On joining the Business division of our programme you will be assigned to one of the following areas, please click on the links provided for more information:

•    Business Analysis
•    Project and Programme Management
•    IT Service Management

Over the course of two years you will be deployed in roles within your business area, which will give you the opportunity to develop a variety of skills and experience. You could be working with technical architects or business analysts to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions using technology, people, or processes. Alternatively, you could be involved in building and testing applications to support our data collections, investigations, agent running or corporate systems.

Upon completion of your first two years you will decide which area of IT you would like to pursue a career in. You will then transition out of the programme and continue to develop your technical expertise within our wider IT community.

Training Opportunities and Career Development

We pride ourselves on providing varied and rewarding careers for all our staff. All members of the Development Programme will be given a core skills training path to follow, with a range of courses on offer from our own internal training Academy. You will also receive extensive on-the-job training to equip you with the skills to manage and lead in different areas of the IT department in the future. You will be mentored by a Development Partner who will offer impartial, professional advice to help guide you through the initial stages of your new career.

We are keen to support your future career. On completion of the two year programme we will offer, and fund, further accredited external training and qualifications. Examples of funded training include:

•    ITIL
•    Oracle / Java Certified Associate C# .Net MSP developer
•    BCS Certificates
•    CESG IA skills framework
•    Security Operations Centre foundation
•    APM Introductory or PRINCE 2 (Foundation and Practitioner)

We offer a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork. We also place great importance on our staff maintaining a healthy work-life balance. For more information on working for MI5, please follow the link to ‘Your Future and Career with MI5’.

Recruitment Process

The first thing we will ask you to do is to complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. Please click here for more information on the selection process. If you meet our eligibility criteria we will then ask you to begin an application. To do this you will need to create a login by providing your full name, email address and a memorable password. You will then be asked to complete a basic application form and equal opportunities monitoring information.

After submitting this form you will be sent an e-mail asking you to take an online verbal reasoning test. If you pass this test we will invite you to complete and submit our full application form, which will be sifted by our recruitment team. The application form contains sections for you to list your qualifications and work experience, as well as competency questions.

Candidates who pass the application form stage of the process will then be scheduled in for a telephone interview. This interview will primarily be competency based and will require you to give specific examples of when you have demonstrated abilities required to be effective in the Development Programme.

Assuming you pass this interview, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre in London. This will be followed by a final selection interview to explore your suitability for your preferred business areas. If successful, you will be made a conditional offer of employment. This offer is made on the condition that you go on to pass the Developed Vetting (DV) stages of the process, including a security interview with one of our vetting officers. Find out more about the vetting process here.

The recruitment and vetting process can take around nine months to complete. If you are in the final year of your studies we advise you to apply now. Once all vetting enquiries have been completed and DV clearance has been granted, we will be in a position to make final offers of employment to candidates and agree start dates. Candidates will be joining in Autumn 2016.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

As part of our commitment to the “Positive about Disabled People” scheme we offer an interview to all candidates with a disability who meet our minimum criteria for the job vacancy that they are applying for. This is known as the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS).

To secure an interview for this vacancy, the minimum criteria are our vacancy eligibility questions, the online verbal reasoning test, and the application form sift. On successful completion of these stages you will be invited to interview. This will normally be a telephone interview and is our guaranteed interview.

This Program / Vacancy is closed to applications.
