An exciting opportunity has arisen to join MI5's Identity and Access Management (IdAM) team; a key support area within Infrastructure Services. As an IdAM Engineer you will be involved in helping to shape the future of MI5 and other intelligence agencies' identity management. Your contribution will help us protect the UK from threats to national security including terrorism.


The Role
    
The IdAM team own several elements of the MI5 IT Infrastructure and you will have the opportunity to work in an interesting section at the forefront of MI5 technology. You’ll have the chance to work alongside almost every team within the IT spectrum on a range of small and large scale projects; delivering true business benefit.

Due to the demands and fast paced environment, there may be occasions to work outside of normal working hours in support of disaster recovery tests or critical project changes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to our Windows Active Directory and security infrastructure in our varied and growing IT environments.
  • Liaise with a range of teams within the Support and Project arenas to progress and implement changes and tasks.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd line support of the Active Directory in all of our corporate environments as well as providing support for privileged User Account Management and the corporate IdAM solution.
  • Respond with 2nd and 3rd line support for incidents and IT Service Requests by: taking ownership of problems, resolving calls logged with the team and assisting with proactive monitoring and daily checks to avert security incidents.
  • Adhere to corporate change processes and implement changes in accordance to them.
  • Help to maintain the integrity of the Identity Management services by following industry standards and recommended designs and practices by vendors such as Microsoft.

The Person

We are searching for individuals who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who are flexible in approach and attitude.

You will be required to have a background in Active Directory 2008, Active Directory security principles, NTFS File permissions and knowledge of Active Directory Replication and Group Policy. It will also be essential to understand FSMO roles, Microsoft best practice for Domain Controller Design and a working knowledge of DFS-R.

It is desirable, but not essential, for individuals to have attained an ITIL Foundation certificate with experience of: using and writing Power Shell (This can also be gained in house), Antivirus software and UNIX administration.


Recruitment Process

Initially, we will ask you to complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. If you do meet these criteria we will then ask you to begin an application.

You will then be invited to upload your CV and complete an online application form. Our recruitment team will conduct a sift of your application. Successful applicants will be invited to a telephone interview, which will include some competency based questions and will explore your motivation to work for MI5.

Assuming you pass the telephone interview, you will be invited to attend a competency based face to face interview at MI5. This will be followed by a security interview with a vetting officer.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, you must meet our residency criteria. You must be a born or naturalised British citizen and one of your parents must be a British citizen or have substantial ties to the UK.

Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for nine out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. However, we will still consider you if you’ve served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty’s Government, studied abroad, or lived overseas with your parents.

Due to vetting requirements you will need to be 18 years old, or above, to apply. Your application may take around six months to process.
