The work will offer challenging opportunities for you to grow and stretch your skills within a supportive team environment. In return, you will receive professional development and qualifications as part of a structured career path.
We are looking for Business Analysts with a range of skills – both people who prefer to shape work at a strategic level and those who want to be embedded in agile delivery teams.
Our Business Analysts will have a range of the following responsibilities, and depending on your experience and preferences these will include:
- Analysing and gaining a common understanding of business needs and opportunities through stakeholder engagement at all levels of the business
- Ensuring desired outcomes are clearly described and aligned to MI5's vision and strategy
- Performing user research using a range of modelling techniques to translate and communicate the needs of the business using:
- Visions, roadmaps and operating models

- User centric design and wireframes which bring design to life
- Working closely with delivery teams to ensure desired products are delivered that meet business needs
- Helping to evolve the Business Analysis community by sharing knowledge and skills and actively looking for opportunities to continuously improve the team’s performance
You will have proven problem solving and analytical skills. Being heavily involved in stakeholder management, it is essential that you can communicate clearly in order to articulate ideas.
We require a logical thinker, with attention to detail and a can-do attitude. You will be able to work both within a team and independently. You will also have the ability to make clear plans, whilst being flexible and adaptable to change.
The first thing we will ask you to do is complete our pre-screening questions to find out if you meet our initial criteria. If you do meet these criteria we will then ask you to begin an application.
You will need to create a log in and provide your full name, email address and a memorable password. Once you have successfully created a personal account, you will be required to complete an initial registration form, providing contact details and equal opportunities monitoring information.
You will then be invited to upload your CV and complete an online application form. Our recruitment team will conduct a sift of your application. Successful applicants will be invited to a telephone interview, which will include some competency based questions and will explore your motivation to work for MI5.
Assuming you pass the telephone interview, you will be required to attend an assessment centre at MI5. This will be followed by a security interview with a vetting officer.
You should read about the vetting process and satisfy yourself that you meet the criteria outlined in the vetting pages of the How to Apply section prior to submitting an application.
Giving misleading information or omitting or concealing information during the recruitment and vetting process is viewed very seriously. You should ensure that you follow our guidance from when you apply.
