MI5’s Cyber Technical Analysts play a vital role in keeping the UK safe and secure from Cyber attack’s . In this role you will provide specialist analysis of sophisticated cyber tools and activity, contributing to MI5’s intelligence of malicious actors. Working alongside MI5 investigators on matters of national security, you will contribute a unique insight into the capabilities and activity of hacker groups that pose a threat to the UK.

Cyber attack is becoming ever more common, and the complex techniques employed by the most sophisticated attackers are advancing at a rapid pace. This constantly changing environment requires individuals with a passion for technology, a keen desire to learn, and a creative drive to rise to new challenges.

Key Responsibilities

This is an office based role working within a supportive team of like-minded technical specialists. You will utilise network and host-based forensics skills, protocol analysis, reverse engineering and bespoke tools to understand the threat posed by malicious groups. You will develop new and innovative tools and tradecraft for MI5 to continue to advance its analytical capabilities. You will identify new intelligence and author technical reports to a wide and varied audience to contribute to the collective understanding of the threat.

The role involves working closely alongside customers and partners from a variety of other teams, including less-technical colleagues. You will require excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

The Person

For success in this role you’ll have, or be expecting to achieve, at least a 2:2 in your degree or equivalent qualification in a technology related field such as computer science, computer security, engineering, digital forensics or another similar subject.  You’ll have a good understanding of networking and operating systems, and an interest in security, forensics and/or penetration testing.

This is a hands-on technical placement; if you enjoy learning new technologies & skills, solving complex analytical problems, adapting quickly to changes, and meet the above requirements then you would be ideally suited to this placement.
